Steps to combat dengue, rat fever

Ratnapura District Secretary Ms Malani Premaratna said that preventive measures have been taken to combat Chikungunya, Dengue and Rat fever which are spreading in the district after the floods.

Twenty two thousand twenty five people belonging to 5,462 families in the Ratnapura district were affected by the recent floods and landslides.

Ms Malini Premaratna said that the people displaced by floods would be provided dry rations.

"The Red Cross Society, NGOs, government ministries and departments are helping to carry out welfare activities to flood affected people", she said.

Two thirds of the land area of the Ratnapura district are subject to the threat of landslides and measures should be taken for the safety of the people, she said.
