Security Forces have gained control of strategically important Palampitty area yesterday after a heavy battle that continued for the past six days north of Madhu area, Army sources said.

Palampitty located 8km north of Madhu is an important junction which connects Vidaththalthivu, Nedunkandal, Maddhu and Mullikulam areas. Thirteen LTTE cadres have been killed in the attack, with a weapons haul of eleven T-56 rifles, one Multi purpose machine gun and four communication equipment sets.

The troops are now engaged in search and clearing operations in the area, sources said.
