Buddhists the world over take time off their daily routine to make colourful lanterns, build pandals and send greeting cards to their loved ones during Vesak which marks the birth, enlightenment and the parinibbana of the Buddha. Tamil political parties pledge support to EPC

President hailed:

The Tamil political parties which contested the Eastern Provincial polls have hailed President Mahinda Rajapaksa for appointing a Chief Minister for the Eastern Province and called upon the new Chief Minister, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan to work for the unity and integrity of all communities in the East and work hard towards expediting development in the region.

Did Friday’s bomb target Pillayan? - Police

Colombo Crime Division sleuths have taken in for questioning a man on suspicion in connection with the bomb explosion opposite the Sambodhi Viharaya at Lotus Road in Fort that killed 10 persons and injured 95 persons, Police media spokesman, told the Sunday Observer.
