MoU to import Yuejin 'Buddy' trucks

Midland Riora Traders, the sole importer of Yuejin branded vehicles signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yuejin Company of the People's Republic of China to import Yuejin 'Buddy' Trucks to the country.

Midland Riora Traders Chairman Nimal Ekanayake welcomed the Vice President Yuejin Motors, Ji ming and the Sales Executive of Yuejin Motors at the launch of Yuejin 'Buddy' trucks in Colombo last week.

Ekanayake said Midland Riora has the largest branch network in the country with 300 vehicles valued at Rs 450 million. "We were the first to launch a Chinese truck in the country. We have a well equipped workshop to handle repairs in the major cities of Colombo, Galle, Kandy and Dambulla." The company has an incentive scheme for drivers who maintain their vehicles in good order, he said.

Midland Riora commenced business 60 years ago in the food industry and diversified its portfolio over the years. It ventured into distribution of consumer goods and importation of vehicles to the country. Its head office at Katugastota Road, Kandy distributes food products to more than 10,000 customers for a day.

Vice President of Yuejin Motors, Ji ming said their company was one of the leading companies in China set up in 1947. It produced the first light truck in 1954. The total assets of the company were around US Dollars 20 billion with 46,000 employees. The company has a joint venture to produce Volkswagen and MG cars in China.

The company has exported Yeujing Trucks to more than 50 countries in the region and to many other parts of the world since 1985.

Dr. (Mrs) Jayampathy Ekanayake (Consultant), Wasantha de Alwis, (Head of Marketing), Lal Alawatte and Athula Dissanayake (Consultant) also spoke.
