President’s appeal to public

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appealed to the public to remain calm and not to be provoked by elements attempting to fan communal hatred and violence. While condemning the recent LTTE bomb attacks which targeted innocent civilians, the President called upon the people to remain vigilant.

SLAF jets pound LTTE spot

SLAF supersonic fighter jets pounded an LTTE gathering place in the Pooneryn area on Friday night. According to the Air Force spokesperson, Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, the air sorties were carried out around 11.00 p.m. targeting the LTTE gathering observed in the general area K-Point in Pooneryn.

Rizana back to Court

Rizana Nafeek, the young Sri Lankan housemaid who was found guilty and sentenced to death on a charge of murdering an infant in her care, will go back on Monday for a fourth time to the court that sentenced her.

Bid to expedite oil exploration

Oil exploration in the Northwestern Mannar coastal region will be expedited with the Government offering the bid to Cairns India Ltd. Formalities in this regard are expected to be completed by the end of this month.

LTTE releases abducted civilians

The LTTE terrorists yesterday released the ten civilians they abducted from Pottuvil earlier this week. The civilians returned to Pottuvil last morning.

 

In police net in Mandapam

The ‘Q’ branch police in Tamil Nadu arrested two persons including a Sri Lankan, and seized 2,000 batteries. Sources said that Mathan Kumar alias Regi, son of Yogaraja of Chettikulam near Vavuniya and Mohamed Kasim, son of Mohamed Ali of Pamban, were waiting for a boat to load the consignment when they landed in the police net on the Mandapam shore.
