Live like one family, says new HC to UK

Sri Lanka's new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) Justice Nihal Jayasinghe said that Sri Lankan expatriates in UK irrespective of communal, religious or other petty differences should live like one family.

A devout Buddhist Justice Jayasinghe said "Sri Lankans should live as one family irrespective of caste and creed.

"They should understand that they are all Sri Lankans and not to discriminate each other," he said.

He said that one may have his/her political and religious differences, but need to shed them for the common good. We have to start at some point to live together and not to think it is a difficult task.

Having joined the Attorney General's Department in 1971 he rose to be the Deputy Solicitor General and in 1997 a Judge of the Appeal Court and later its chairman. In 2002 he became a Supreme Court Judge and was also appointed by the United Nations as a Judge of the International War Crimes Court.Justice Jayasinghe will be leaving for the UK on July 1 to assume duties.
