SLT Group - platinum sponsor for national IT conference 2008

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), together with Mobitel, SLT's mobile arm and SLT Visioncom, IP TV subsidiary, announced its platinum sponsorship for the 26th National Information Technology Conference (NITC) 2008, one of the biggest Information Technology (IT) events in Sri Lanka. Organised by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) it was held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.

This year's theme was 'e-Inclusion for a Knowledge Economy,' providing a forum to learn from industry visionaries as well as enabling networking with peers. It also focussed on ICT innovations and shared knowledge amongst the ICT community.

Among the areas discussed were E Governance, e-Inclusion in the Asian context, e-Inclusion through open source, Mobile communication for information rich society, strategies for promoting engagement in distance education and Delivering distance education using information technology: challenges and opportunities in Sri Lanka.

Chairperson, Sri Lanka Telecom Group Ms. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena said, "We have taken the initiative in Sri Lanka to enhance the modern ICT network infrastructure throughout the nation to provide integrated services.

The communications industry is growing by leaps and bounds, and is in convergence with the IT industry. Due to this, the role of organisations such as CSSL helps operators, academics and vendors in comunications and IT industries to work together towards a common goal to create a society of digital democracy".
