Tele conferences to discuss people's problems

A high-tech tele conference system will be used by the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs in future to deal with countrywide divisional secretaries and other public sector officials.

The objective of this novel program is to discuss official matters pertaining to people who live in distant areas and also to give quick solutions to their problems.

As a rehearsal, the first tele conference system was conducted by the Public Administration Ministry last week in Colombo with the Divisional Secretary of the recently liberated Mannar District. Public Administration Minister Karu Jayasooriya and a team of his officials directly exchanged views with the officers in the Mannar Divisional Secretariat.

Minister Jayasooriya told the Sunday Observer that discussions were very fruitful and they were able to talk with the officials in the Mannar Divisional Secretariat about various matters pertaining to Internaly Displaced Persons, the agricultural activities in the area and also providing welfare to people in liberated areas.

He said re-commencing of already closed schools due to war situation, improving transport services and also problems related to fisher families were also discussed during the conference. The Minister assured that steps will be taken to solve the problems as early as possible. The next tele conference will be held at Moneragala.
