Over 60% voter turn-out at PC polls

Over sixty five per cent of the registered voters of the North Central and the Sabaragamuwa provinces cast their votes in the PC elections yesterday.

No major incidents were reported during the voting time. According to the Election Control Room, Ratnapura, voting percentage in Ratnapura district was between 60-65 per cent.

Voters stood in long queues at the polling booths in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Polonnaruwa district from early morning.

A spokesman for the Elections Department said that voting in both provinces was peaceful in the early hours of yesterday. The total number of voters of the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces is 2,165,280, of which 846,454 belong to the Sabaragamuwa Province and 1,318,826 to the North Central province. The PC election was conducted at 758 and 1,014 polling stations in the NCP and Sabaragamuwa.
