Rugby sevens great Waisale Serevi for Isipatana Sevens Tourney?
RUGBY: One of the world's greatest Sevens rugby players -Fijian
legend Waisale Serevi could be in Sri Lanka to grace an International
Sevens Rugby Tournament in 2009, if practical modalities could be
finalised to hold such a tournament, by one of the leading rugby playing
schools in the country, Isipathana Maha Vidyalaya (MV), sources attached
to the school told Sunday Observer.
If the tournament becomes a reality the Havelock Town based school
will make arrangements to have the tournament on the same lines that
they staged tourneys in 2001 and 2004 respectively.
Sunday Observer reliably learns that Isipathana MV which has produced
the largest number of national caps by a singal school in the annals of
local rugby, numbering over 50, is seriously considering the possibility
of inviting the legendary Fijian to further enhance the growing image
and popularity of Sri Lanka rugby. Isipathana MV, sources said, they are
yet to finalise the actual number of teams and the countries they will
be inviting but stressed that they will certainly get down the former
Fiji Sevens wizard if the tournament was to see the light of day. Serevi
was a household name in international rugby and more so in the Sevens
version for over 15 years during which time he had fans spelbound the
world over with his gifted talents.
