Govt mechanism in place in Kilinochchi and
Mullaitivu - Defence Secy.

The
withdrawal of foreign aid workers and Non
Governmental Organisations from Kilinochchi
and Mullaitivu, the last of the LTTE
territory, would not hinder humanitarian
activities as a well organised government
mechanism is operating in these areas
through government agents, their staff and
other state officials, Defence Secretary,
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told the SO. He said the
government took this firm decision to avoid
unfortunate incidents. The Defence Secretary
said that these workers were given deadlines
to reach government controlled areas.
Rs. 15.2 m compensation for Jaffna victims
of violence

The
Ministry of Resettlement and Disaster
Management has allocated Rs. 15.2 million as
compensation to families affected by
violence in the Jaffna district, sources
said. Hundreds of families in the Jaffna
Peninsula were affected due to violence and
measures have been taken to pay the
compensation to the next of kin of the
victims, depending on the damage they
suffered, the sources said.
No amendments to UNP constitution till
December

UNP
General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka said that
amendments to the party constitution will
not be done under any circumstances before
December. The main matter pertaining to the
party leadership and the powers vested in
him will be discussed at the party’s annual
convention, scheduled to be held in
December. “Fourteen matters which were
submitted by senior party officials by their
committee report last week was discussed on
September 12”, he said.
Visitors deface heritage site

Kandy. Local visitors touch the ancient wood
carvings and disfigure it. Garbage is dumped
on the Lankatileke mountain and the ‘Please
take your litter with you’ notice at the

C-4 explosives, timer found in Dehiwala

Security
forces while conducting a search operation
at Dehiwala, Saturday have reportedly found
100g of C-4 explosives and a timer.
According to Defence sources, the recovered
was made near a transformer in proximity of
the National Zoo. Further investigations are
now underway.

Rs 410-million Chinese-funded Kudawella
fisheries harbor project was declared open
in Matara today. The harbour was severely
damaged in the 2004 tsunami devastation. The

technical operational facilities, can anchor

Teachers return to work slowly

FLASH: Minor
explosion on railway track - Sedawatte

A suspected Improvised Explosive Device has
been exploded on the railway track close to
the Black Bridge, Sedawatte around 7.45 PM,
police sources reveal. The sources confirmed
that no one has been injured due to the
incident. The bomb has been placed on the
railway track about 100m towards Sedawatte
from the railway bridge. The explosion has
caused about one foot crack on one of the
rail. Police conduct further investigations.
Market downward

The
market continued its down trend for the
fourth consecutive day with the ASPI losing
12 points (-0.5%) to close at 2,372, while
the MPI lost 20 points (-0.7%) to close at
2,710. Overall market sentiment was dull
with turnover at Rs 126 million with Lanka
IOC still accounting for Rs 19.2 million in
turnover.
