Bank Pass Books for fisher families

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the People's Bank in collaboration with the Pubuduni organisation presented the savings account pass books to women of fisher families at the Don Bosco Hall in Negombo recently.

Savings account pass books, were given to 500 women of fisher families.

According to Ministry sources, the main objective of the project is to encourage women to improve the fisheries sector and strengthen their economy.

The Ministry will expand the project to other fisher families in Negombo.

According to the Ministry 4,000 fisher families live close to the Negombo lagoon. The Ministry has allocated Rs. 350 million to provide infrastructure facilities in the area.
