Economic Centre in Kaldemulla

A Dedicated Economic Centre (DEC) was set up yesterday in Kaldemulla, Ratmalana.

Trade, Marketing Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardana said essential food items such as rice, vegetables, fish, meat and fruits were available at affordable prices at the Ratmalana DEC.

Middlemen are not involved in the DEC business and the trade stalls are managed by producers. They charge the prices of the producers, the minister said.

Ratmalana DEC which was designed and built by the Central Engineering and Construction Board (CECB) has 200 sales outlets. Around Rs. 110 million was invested for the project, he said.

DECs have been set up in Veyangoda, Welisara, Kurunduwatta, Meegoda, Nuwara Eliya, Keppetipola, Tabuttegama, Dambulla, Embilipitiya, Kandehandiya, Weeravila, Narahenpita to sell food items at reasonable prices.
