Death in whispers

Death never came in volumes
Nor in harsh words of departure
Or in the final goodbye of a lover
Death came in whispers....
Death came in sweet words full of love,
In eyes that looked so adoringly,
Eyes that spoke of love,
In the end left death as
The final words of departure.....
Eyes that touched the very depth
of the soul
In the end became just another memory
Now the memory of you feels like
The valley of death itself
And whenever I walk through that valley
My heart shivers in pain....

- Bertholameuze Nisansala Dharmasena

Light

The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one,
Yet the light of the bright world dies,
With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one,
Yet the light of a whole life dies,
When the love is done.

Asika Abeysinghe

Little drops of Rain

Looking out of the glass window
I see the falling rain.
I welcome it as the burning heat
Vanishes from the atmosphere
I see the rain drops falling on
The yellow flowers
Oh! beautiful Rain before you came
A furnace was this place
The Grass outside the house waited
Long hours to quench its thirst
Little drops of Rain on the grass
Makes it a beautiful picture for me
I don't go in search of valuable paintings
I see beauty around me
My Garden gives me so much of pleasure
Especially after the rains
Drops of Rain on the Rose buds
Oh! what a painting it is!

The candle life

Standing by me
Chasing darkness
And giving vivid hopes
You brighten my soul
Duplicating the sun's course

Yet......
The melting wax of time,
Steals my comfort
Reminding me of
The end of another passage
Of my life's course!

-A. Jayalath Basnagoda

Roots

Three majestic trees,
Planted with loving care,
Watched them grow to maturity,
Has it really been 18 years?

Sentinels they stood, lining my front lawn,
Best of its kind, teak for sure,
Made the environment cool and calm,
A landmark for whoever wants to,
Find my home,
One day my trees straight and tall,
Were gone for good,
Modern technology - in just an hour,
Felled the mighty giants - ground zero.

Gone is the shade from branches wide,
Gone is the roost for many a bird,
Gone is the refuge for entwining vines,
Remaining in the ground (and in my heart),
Were the roots of my cherished trees.

Moon and Loneliness

Oh! Moon,
Shine me,
Me and my soul,
From your silky rays.

Oh! Moon,
Give me your warmth,
Which makes me alive,
And relieved.

Oh! Moon,
Send me your cool rays,
Through my open window,
My heart feels lonely.
