Rugby player Imran Bisthamin undergoing physiotherapy exercises
RUGBY: Kandy SC `number eight' Imran Bisthamin, who met with a
life-threatening injury some five months ago, is currently undergoing
physiotherapy exercises, having regained his consciousness, Senior Vice
President of Kandy SC, Iswan Omar told Sunday Observer.
"He (Bisthamin) is currently undergoing physiotherapy", he said. "Imran
Bisthamin was initially treated at the Kandy Teaching Hospital, before
being moved to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, on the advice of his
doctors.
"But, from reports that we have, he is apparently responding well to
the treatment, and he is well and truly out of any life-threatening
danger".
Asked whether the highly-talented back-row forward would be able to
step onto a rugby field in future, after his injury, Iswan Omar
expressed his doubts, saying that `it would be tantamount to a miracle'
if the loose forward could resurrect his playing career given the
severity of the accident. "Let alone playing, thank God that he is
alive", the Kandy SC Senior Vice President said.
"It is very unlikely, that he could start his rugby career, which is
a very physical contact sport. But, our prayers are with him, for his
swift recovery and his resuming his normal life".
Imran Bisthamin, a former St. Anthony's College, Katugastota `number
eight', cum captain met with his accident while on a night out with
friends at a restaurant named `Re Kade', situated in a high-storeyed
building in Dalada Veediya Kandy, last November and having lost his
balance while leaning against one of the unguarded railings.
