Protestors from an unauthorized Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam
demonstration in London are alleged to have beheaded the statue of Sri
Jawaharlal Nehru, the founder of free India and first Prime Minister in
a symbolic act against the country. The Metropolitan Police said that
they have been investigating into the matter and no arrests have been
made still. On the day of the incident the LTTE supporters held a
demonstration alleging India of supporting the military operation
against the LTTE in Sri Lanka in front of the premises. In the morning
the Indian High Commission officials found the smashed up pieces of the
Nehru head wrapped up in a sheet. The statue of Nehru is one put up by
the City of Westminster close to the India House.
The police investigations have found the CCTV cameras in the place
had been turned towards the sky so the figures of the wrongdoers would
not be recorded. The ABC live, a news website said, "As per reliable
sources, Tamil rebels, LTTE supporters are supposed to be behind this"
shameful act in London.
Indian Express website said, "Protesting Sri Lankan Tamils are being
blamed for beheading the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru outside India House
in London this morning." |
