Bus strike: Private operators to the rescue

The Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) yesterday assured that over 18,000 buses belong to their Association would operate an uninterrupted service during the festive season.

PBOA Secretary V.S.P. Liyanage on behalf of PBOA, President Gamunu Wijeratne who is on an official tour of China told the Sunday Observer that their Association had taken a firm decision to run a smooth passenger service during this season by adding more buses.

"We will run the special service until April 20 facilitate people to return to their homes and workplaces without any hindrance," Liyanage said.

When contacted Southern Provincial Council, Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva thanked the Southern Province Private Bus Operators Association for the invaluable support, extended at this juncture when the workers of several bus depots have struck.

Meanwhile, a senior Railway Department official said that the CGR would operate 47 additional trains until the festive season ends.
