India, ASEAN for teamwork
India called to boost regional cooperation with the Association of
South East Asia Nations (ASEAN) to cope with the unprecedented global
economic crisis.Trade Minister Kamal Nath will represent India in
Pattaya, Thailand, at Saturday’s ASEAN Summit, which will discuss the
convulsive world economy.
Nath will also represent India on Sunday 12th at the 4th East Asia
Summit, with the ten ASEAN member countries plus China, Japan, South
Korea, Australia ad New Zealand at the same venue.
Both summits are held at a crucial moment to adopt common stands
helping ease the aftermath of the global recession, said Nath.
Other government sources talk of the signing in Pattaya of a free
trade agreement, which will not be signed until differences are resolved
on tariff reduction and protectionism, namely in agricultural products.
