Watch out for Prabhakaran - people say
Ananda KANNANGARA
Number of city folk of all communities said on Friday that the armed
forces at security points must make special checks on civilians coming
from the `No Fire Zone' (NFZ) to liberated areas, since LTTE leader
Velupillai Prabhakaran could also make a safe escape along with them in
disguise of a monk, priest, a bearded civilian or an injured person.
Referring to a statement made by National Freedom Front (NFF),
President Wimal Weerawansa, a banker, Rumesh Rangan, currently employed
in Colombo and a resident of Jaffna told the `Sunday Observer' that
international humanitarian agencies in the NFZ could help Prabhakaran to
leave the area. He therefore, requested security personnel to carry out
special checks on all NGO vehicles, especially ambulances coming from
the NFZ, as Prabhakaran could make a safe escape through vehicles. He
further said that as Prabhakaran could not flee the country by sea due
to high security deployed at key places.
Another resident from Bambalapitiya Susantha Peris said that at the
time when the international community raised their anger against the
LTTE, Sri Lanka has got the opportunity to catch the LTTE leader alive.
He also said that our armed forces must keep an alert for the LTTE
leaders, since he would mingle with ordinary citizens to make a safe
escape to liberated areas and thereafter to a foreign country on forged
documents. |
