Agriculture and food marketing for North-East
L.S. Ananda WEDAARACHCHI
An agriculture and food marketing extension program will be
implemented in the North and Eastern provinces shortly.
The Hector Kobbekaduwa Agriculture Research and Training Institute,
the main arm of agriculture marketing and research in the country has
accordingly decided to appoint agriculture and food market situations
monitoring officers for the North and Eastern Provinces. They will
develop efficient agricultural methods and a food marketing system in
those areas. This will come into operation after three decades, said
Deputy Director HARTI Dr. L.P. Rupasena.
HARTI publishes monthly and weekly food information bulletins giving
the latest market trends and the food prices in the country. For nearly
ten years HARTI could not obtain information from official sources from
North and East due to the armed conflict in those areas. |
