AirAsia to fly in from Malaysia at low cost

AirAsia, the low-cost airline based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will be operating direct flights to Colombo from August.

The airline is now planning to set up office in Sri Lanka and is in the process of recruiting staff for their Sri Lankan operations.

AirAisa which hopes to operate two direct flights per week to Colombo, is also looking at the Maldives.

Currently only Sri Lankan and Malaysian Airlines services are available and with the relaxed visa policy and the low fare, AirAsia is expected to become popular. The rapidly growing airline which is making huge a expansion in Asia this year, is also planning to fly to cities in India, and will have its inaugural flight between Taipei and Kuala Lumpur on July 1. Kochi, Coimbatore and Trivandrum would also be connected this year while Delhi and Mumbai Bangalore, Hyderabad will be part of AirAsia's next route expansion plans.
