Orange electric donates eye ward to hospital

A much felt need for the South was fulfilled on March 5, with the opening of the Eye Ward and operating theatre at the base hospital Balapitiya. Renovated and refurbished at a cost of 2 million by Orange Electric under its CSR program “Light for You Sight for Me” the new eye ward and surgical unit will certainly ease the burden of the 350 patients currently on the waiting list for medical attention for their optical medical needs.

The renovation of this ward was undertaken on the request of the Health Ministry as part of the national plan “Vision 2020” with the objective of reducing preventive blindness.

Blindness due to cataract which is a common cause for preventive blindness, is one such issue that needs addressing. Fortunately blindness arising from cataract is revisable if timely corrective action is taken.

Recognising this fact, Orange Electric decided to come forward through its CSR program to assist those organisations that work towards the goal of reducing preventive blindness.
