Atlas Bak Maha Ulela - 2009 :
The Welfare Society of Ceylon Pencils Company (Pvt) Ltd., organised
2009 Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations with a difference, with
more activities and entertainments.
With the participation of the management and the staff of Ceylon
Pencil Company (Pvt) Ltd., the “Atlas Bak Maha Ulela” was held on April
8 at the company premises at Peliyagoda.

The program was conducted according to Sinhala Tradition.
It included items such as playing raban, selection of Avurudu Kumara
and Kumari.
The staff from various parts of the country working at Ceylon Pencil
Company (Pvt) Ltd., gathered as a family for this event exhibiting the
traditions, culture of their villages.
“Competitions among the staff as well as inter-departments were
organised for the first time in the company”, a spokesman of the Company
Welfare Society said.
He said such event within the company will promote unity, brotherhood
among the staff it was an opportunity to practise/share culture, and
rituals .
The company Welfare Society confirmed that they would continue the
above event in the coming years too.
All the winners were awarded with prizes.
Since 1959, the Ceylon Pencil Company (Pvt) Ltd., has achieved
success and excelled in the manufacture and distribution of school
instruments, stationery in Sri Lanka. In 1960, the Ceylon Pencil Company
(Pvt) Ltd., manufactured “Varsity” pencils as their maiden product which
became the challenging stationery product at a time the market was
dominated by imported pencils and pens.
Within a short period the `varsity’ pencil became very popular and a
household requirement due to its high quality.
Using modern technology for the past four decades, the company
ventured in to manufacture a variety of pens, pencils and stationery
items and now the company manufacture and distribute over 450 varieties
of stationery items.
The company makes every endeavour to produce high quality products
and takes into consideration, suggestions and views of schoolteachers,
students to promote creativity and skills among them.
The company organise the all island “Sithru” art competition and
exhibition on an annual basis under the guidance and supervision of the
Ministry of Education. It also sponsors weekly children’s creative
programs such as “Atlas Creative Club” on TV and contribute to many
children’s programs.
Award winning company
Ceylon Pencil Company (Pvt) Ltd., was awarded with ISO 9001:2000
certification for its stationery items manufacture under the “Atlas”
trade name.
The “Community Leader Award” from the Chartered Institute of Sri
Lanka was awarded to Ceylon Pencil Company (Pvt) Ltd., for Corporate
Social Responsibility activities for the contribution made to education
sector.
Ceylon Pencil Company (Pvt) Ltd., received a Merit award for 5S
standard by competing with “Jastica Society”. |
