CWC members pay day’s salary

Parliamentarians representing the Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC), its
Pradeshiya Sabha members and members of other local government bodies
will contribute one month’s salary towards the Presidential Fund for
providing humanitarian assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons in
the Vanni while plantation workers who are members of the CWC will also
contribute their day’s wages to the Fund, Muthu Sivalingam, party
President and Deputy Minister of Nation Building and Estate
Infrastructure Development, announced.
Access to disabled in public places

The Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare is looking at
introducing special access to disabled people in more government and
public places. This is subsequent to a special gazette notification on
17.10.2006. Ministry has also decided to request all institutions that
are refurbishing their premises to include a special disabled access.
“We have requested to provide a disabled access to all buildings that
are being built in the future and architects and draftsmen have been
briefed in this regard,” an official of the ministry said.
Heart patient needs help
Forty one year old and a father of three, M. Grecian of E. D. Dabare
Mw., Narahenpita is suffering from coronery artery disease and has been
advised by the Consultant Cardiologist of the National Hospital, Dr.
Vajira Senaratne to undergo therapeutic procedure, for which a cypher
stent had to be purchased from the open market.
The unit is quoted to cost around Rs. 290,000 which the patient
cannot afford and hence he appeals to the generous public, for
contributions which may be remitted to Seylan Bank, Borella, A/c No.
