Mithun Perera wins Nepal Amateur Golf Title

GOLF: Sri Lankan amateur golfer Mithun Perera won the Surya Nepal Amateur Golf Championship 2009 on individual category and also in the inter-nation category held recently at the Gokarna Forest Resort in Kathmandu in Nepal, finishing 10 under par with 278 while Jamal Hossain Mollah of Bangladesh was second at 293 (5 over par) and Nepal number one amateur Rupak came 03rd at (11 over par).

 Mithun Perera - follows in the footsteps of his golfing father Nandasena Perera.

Over 100 renowned golfers from six countries including Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Australia participated in the Nepal Golf Championship - 2009. Mithun’s participation was coordinated by the Sri Lanka Golf Union.

Perera also won second place at the Surya Nepal Masters 2009 held in Nepal during the same period under professional category. Sri Lankan Anura Rohana won the first major professional title of his career at the Surya Nepal Masters - 2009.

Expressing views at his victory, Perera stated that it was his first tour in the professional circuit outside the country and was happy that the trophy went to Sri Lanka and also to became # 2, beating all other top PGTI players.

Earlier this year, Perera also won the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in China, knocking out 18 countries including of Asia and European countries such as England, France, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Japan etc., and has been invited by Asia Pacific Golf Confederation to take part in the Australian Open in December this year.

Mithun Perera is the son of Sri Lankan golfing legend Nandasena Perera. Having completed his school education at the President’s College, Kotte, currently Mithun is employed at Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

Mithun’s golfing achievements:

2000 Sri Lanka Junior Championship - Under 15 - Winner, 2002 Sri Lanka Junior Championship - Under 18 - Winner, 2003 Sri Lanka Junior Championship - Under 18 - Winner, 2004 Sri Lanka Junior Championship - Under 18 - Winner.

2005 7th SAARC Golf Championship - Team Event - 3rd Place, 2005 Hong Kong Amateur Championship - Open - Runner-up (13 under par), 2006 Singapore Amateur Open - International team Event - Runner-up, 2006 Sri Lanka Amateur Open Championship - Individual - Winner (10 Under Par), 2006 46th Pakistan Amateur Open Championship - Individual - Runner Up.

2006 8th SAARC Golf Championship - Team Event - Runner-up, 2006 Bangladesh Amateur Open Championship - Team Event - Runner-up - 2007 9th SAARC Golf Championship - Individual - Winner, (4 Under par).

2007 9th SAARC Golf Championship - Team Event - Winner, 2007 East India Amateur Championship - Winner, 2008 Bangladesh Amateur Open Championship - International Team Event - Winner.

2008 48th Pakistan Amateur Open Championship - Open - Runner-up, 2008 106th Malaysian Amateur Open - T7 (1 under), 2008 World amateur inter team championship - Individual - Runner up, 2008 Sri Lankan Amateur Open Championship Individual - WINNER (7 under), 2008 Sri Lankan Amateur Open Championship International Team Event - Winner, 2009 Mission Hill Asia Pacific Open Amateur Championship - Winner.

2009 Sri Lanka Open Championship - Individual - Runner up (6 under), 2009 Bangladesh Amateur Open Championship - Individual - 3rd place, 2009 Surya Nepal Amateur Golf Championship - Individual - Winner, 2009 Surya Nepal Masters - 2009 - Individual - Runner up.
