Guyanga, Asankha and Rohan in line for singles title

TENNIS: A stiff battle does seem to be developing between the current Davis Cup players, Guyanga Weerasekera and Asankha Atukorale and the former Sri Lankan champion and Davis Cup player, Rohan de Silva in the singles event of the Jetwing-SLTA Open Ranking Tennis Tournament that concludes today at the SLTA's courts in Negombo and at the Beach Hotel, Negombo.

All three of them, along with Arthur Hewakotage have entered the semi-finals which will be played today followed by the finals that will bring to a close this 5-day tournament with awards ceremony at the Beach Hotel.

In the women's singles event, former Sri Lanka champion Shalini de Silva qualified to meet Tharvindra Ekanayake in the final. Shalini was pressed by Roshenka Fernando in the semi-finals, while Tharvindra had it easy against Shereen Wijesinghe. The men's, women's and the mixed doubles are in progress to be completed today.
