West Virginia woman wins her 9th big lottery prize
Charleston, West Virginia - Brenda Bailey is still on a roll. This
week, the 60-year-old South Charleston woman claimed her ninth West
Virginia Lottery prize, $7,000 in the Gem 7s instant game. That brings
her total winnings since last September to $159,000 from five instant
tickets.
Lottery officials say Bailey has claimed a total $165,800 in prizes
from instant and online games since 2000. She's not the only lucky one
in the family. Her husband Richard claimed a $6,000 instant game prize
in January and a $10,000 prize last September.

Stupid robber ever
A bank robber chose the wrong way to make a getaway from the scene of
his crime - accidentally hailing a ride from an undercover cop. Having
looted a Michigan bank, parolee Mark E White flagged down a passing
vehicle a few blocks away. The driver turned out to be local Saginaw
Township detective Scott Jackson, who immediately arrested the would-be
escapee.
The hapless con was slapped with charges that include bank robbery
and making a false bomb threat. He is now being held at the Saginaw
County Jail on a $755,000 (£465,600) bail. The attempted bank job came a
matter of weeks after White had been freed on parole. He was released
from jail on June 16 after serving time for operating a vehicle while
intoxicated and - fittingly - violating an earlier parole.

Ladybugs Turn Mountain Area Red
A modest Colorado mountain might just be the luckiest place in the
world. Ladybugs have inundated a remote neighborhood on a peak in
Jefferson County. What began as a few red dots on drainpipes lower down
swelled to swarms blanketing every inch of trees near the mountaintop.
Residents talked to local station KUSA only after the reporter
promised not to reveal the location of the amazing red masses. Theirs is
a small, quiet area, they said. Few live there -- until now.
