Welfare villages relief satisfactory - UNDP official

The United Nations Development Project (UNDP) Assistant
Administrative Director Jordan Rayon said that he was quite satisfied
with the relief measures carried out in the welfare villages and welfare
centres in Vavuniya and Jaffna by the Government during his recent visit
to the North.
After his tour to the North, Rayon held a discussion with
Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Minister Rishard Badiudeen at
his Ministry and assured the UNDP’s fullest co-operation to the
Government in the de-mining process and the resettlement of the IDPs in
their own areas.
They also discussed the facilities available in the welfare villages
and welfare centres and the necessity of improving the facilities and
the moves to be taken in relation to the livelihood development.
He also held discussions with Foreign Ministry Officials and the
institutions who are engaged in the welfare activities for IDPs in
relation to the present situation of welfare centres and welfare
villages.
During the meeting both parties paid considerable attention towards
the resettlement program to be carried out within 180 days and President
Mahinda Rajapaksa’s two year development project.
Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Ministry Secretary U.L.M.
Haldeen, UNDP Sri Lankan representative Neel Brunai and the officers
attached to the Ministry were also present.
