Defending champions Isipatana will face a strong challenge from S.
Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia at the Zahira Invitation Rugby Sevens
which will be worked off at CR and FC grounds, Longden Place on 25
(Saturday).
The winners will receive a handsome cash award of Rs. 50,000, cup
runners-up will receive Rs. 25,000, plate winners Rs. 15,000 and plate
runners-up will receive Rs. 10,000. In addition there will be a cash
prize of Rs. 10,000 for the 'outstanding player'. In this tournament
organised by the Group of Sixties of Zahira College. The Principal
sponsor is Harcourts Group of Companies and Co-Sponsor is Diamond Food
Products.
Medals and certificates will be given to the winning and runners-up
teams. Dharmaraja will also be up there in contention with an off colour
St. Peter's getting their chance to bounce back to regain lost prestige.
The participating 12 teams are categorized by Group A, Group B, Group C,
Group D.
Group A - Isipathana College, Dharmaraja College, C. W. W. Kannangara
Vidyalaya, Group B - St. Peter's College, Vidyartha College, Prince of
Wales College; Group C - St. Joseph's College, Zahira College; Carey
College Group D - S. Thomas' College, Royal College, Panadura, St.
Anne's College, Kurunegala.
The tournament details were disclosed at a Press Conference held at
Zahira College Hall. The tournament has the blessings of the SLSRFA.
