TCL and Singer walk the 'Road of Asia' together

ASIAN GAMES: TCL an official partner of the 16th Asian Games, and Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC, its exclusive agent here, welcomed the 2010 Games Road show as it wound its way to Colombo for just one day on June 24.

The 'Road of Asia' tour will be travelling to 45 Asian countries and aims to build excitement for the Guangzhaou, China edition of the Asiad, which bears the striking tagline "Thrilling Games, Harmonious Asia".

Singer (Sri Lanka) PlC, along with TCL staged the Sri Lanka stop of the tour by hosting a gala event at the Water's Edge that paid tribute to the spirit of the Games. Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge, who accepted a 42" TCL LCD television on behalf of the Ministry, was feted by Singer at the celebration, which featured Chinese cultural dances.

The Company also gifted a 42" TCL LCD television to the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka as a token of appreciation for the work done by the Committee in improving sporting standards in Sri Lanka. Nasser Majeed, Marketing Director at Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC, described the 'Road of Asia' promotional event as a showcase for sports, culture and international friendship, observing that "following on the heels of a spectacular Beijing Olympics, the 16th Asian Games promises to give the sports-loving public on exciting event". Commenting on the honour of being associated with the prestigious 2010 Asia Games, Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC Chairman.

Hemaka Amarasuriya said that "the Asian Games and the Olympic Movement are much more than a sports event", these are about bringing countries and people together in a celebration of harmony, camaraderie and goodwill," going on to note that "in much the same way, Singer sees itself as a thread running through the tapestry of Sri Lankan life, binding communities to one another in fellowship and togetherness."

Singer has a long record of involvement with sports in Sri Lanka from its sponsorship of the 1996 World Cup winning cricket team to its current sponsorship of the Bradby Shield. The Company's dedication to sports, as part of a larger CSR program, is mirrored by TCL which has supported the Chinese volleyball team and also sponsored numerous European Golf Tours.Hemaka Amerasuriya, remarked that "the 2010 Asian Games seems to have brought not only nations together but has also further solidified the relationship" between the two companies and promised to unveil a new range of world class TCL products and promotions in the near future.
