Piano recital - sheer delight

It was a welcome return by the renowned Sri Lankan pianist Shani Diluka who gave a recital at the Alliance Francaise recently. She was joined by the reputed French violinist Gabriel La Magadure. Her solo piano program comprised three Nocturnes by Chopin in B Flat Major Opus 9 No. 1 and No. 3 and the Nocturne in F Major Op 15 No. 1 and Chopin’s Minute Waltz in E Flat Major.

Along with the violinist Gabriel La Magadure the duo played a selection of nine well loved masterpieces which included Meditation Thais by Massenet, Liebesfreud by Kreisler, Clair de la Lune, Serenade Toscane, Melody Opus 42 by Tchaikovsky and Kreisler’s Miniature Viennese March.

Shani Diluka who now lives in France was in Sri Lanka on a short holiday.


‘Peshali presents...’

A choral concert by the students of Peshali Yapa will be staged today at the Lionel Wendt Theatre commencing 7.30 pm. The choral concert titled ‘Peshali presents.....’ comprises the Senior and Junior choirs their ages ranging from six to 35 years. According to Peshali the choir will sing songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and even 2000 in four part, three part harmony and duets, and the concert will be of two hour duration. The concert titled Coro Cant Amici will also feature gospel, broadway and folk music.

The junior students Piccolinis will perform enchanting toe - tapping medleys. Kamalini Casie Chetty and Ruwanthi Yatagama will accompany the choir on piano while Shamal de Silva will be at the keyboards and Christopher Prins will play the acoustic drums.

The choir started off one year ago and as Peshali remarks she hopes to progress more in the years to come.


Await CD from C&C

A CD with new Sinhala songs composed by Chandani including an English original will be released shortly. The band had been working hard these past few months in laying the tracks of the CD which is titled Sandu Avilla. C&C who were heard regularly at the Cinnamon Grand will now open on Saturdays at the Mix at Taj Samudra.
