After the end of the 30 years civil war businesses in the country are recovering fast. The tourism sector will lead the way. The signs of fast recovery in the tourism industry is witnessed by these tourists from Switzerland who enjoy in the Arugam Bay, one of the world famous surfing locations in the Eastern Sri Lanka, 314 km away from Capital Colombo. The East coast offers infinite possibilities for all kinds of water sports and underwater photography. Today Arugam Bay is a fishing village 2 1/2 km south of the Pottuvil town at the remote south end of the east coast, which has the potential of becoming a main tourist destination.Pic: Sudath Malaweera.

ASC shifts headquarters to Colombo

The end of the 30 year war has started to pay dividends to the country which is evident by the Asian Shippers Council’s (ASC) decision to shift its headquarters to Colombo from Singapore, said the new Secretary General of the ASC, Rohan Masakorala.

US$25m gas terminal for Hambantota

Laugfs Holding is to put up a gas terminal in Hambantota exploiting the facilities from the proposed Hambantota Harbour. Chairman Southern Development Authority, Ranjith Gunasekera said that the company has already earmarked a suitable land for the project and signage has been already put up.

NITF enters in a big way

The National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF),the second state insurance entity will extend its services to the public of all categories of general insurance requirements. NITF has introduced several insurance schemes such as agrahara, motor, strike, riot, civil commotion and terrorism, migrant workers and reinsurance for semi government employees.
