Golden Chimes |
After a lapse of a few years the Moratuwa Arts Forum will present a
sing-a-long concert of Sinhala old favourites and wide repertoire of
Sinhala evergreen songs made popular by well-known Sri Lankan artistes.
A host of old patriotic songs too will be included in the programme.
The musical backing will be provided by Lankika and the Golden Chimes
and the Moratuwa Arts Forum Orchestra. The concert will be held on
September 20 at the Buddhist Hall, Moratuwa commencing 6.00 p.m.
The Minister of Cultural Affairs Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena (Patron of
MAF) will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
An attraction song book of 100 songs complete with lyrics will be
issued along with the ticket at the gate. In addition to the singing MAF
has also arrange for attractive traditional dance sequences performed by
MAF members. The project for the MAF will be handled by the two Chairmen
Sarath Gunawardena and Jagath Devapriya.

Clarence unplugged with Marians
Marians will stage their second unplugged concert of Clarence
Wijewardena’s songs at the BMICH on September 13 at 7.00 p.m. The show
will comprise more than thirty hit songs of Clarence including Maaniyeni,
Gamen Liyumak, Malata Bambereku, Sadak Basagiya and more. Presented by
St. Theresa’s Church, Kelaniya in association with D. K. Promotions, the
proceeds of the show is a fund raiser for the development of the church.
A DVD recording of Marians first unplugged concert held last year will
be launched to coincide with the show on September 13. The unplugged
concert next Sunday will be a unique presentation and fans of Clarence
are bound to enjoy the music. M.P.

Hindi music legend celebrates b’day
Piyarelal the veteran Hindi Music legend who with his brother
Lakshmikanth made a mark for themselves in the world of Hindi Cinema,
celebrated his 69th birthday on September 3.
The two brothers bagged the Filmfare Award for Dosthi which was
screened in 1969, and their tunes for over 500 tunes is now a valuable
legacy. Some of Piyarelal films considered to be blockbusters are
Parashmanee, Dosthi, Millan, Gini Ki Raha, Amar, Akbar, Anthony, Sargam
and Santhyam Sivam Sundaram. Today the music maestro is in retirement
with his wife, son Gautham, his dauther-in-law Rashmi and grandson at
their home the music ashram Deep Bella in Mumbai. |
