Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy cricketer of the year:

The 31st Observer Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year award ceremony will be telecast on ITN on Sunday, September 13 from 10.10pm. The event organised by the Sunday Observer and sponsored by Sri Lanka’s national mobile network SLT Mobitel, was held at the BMICH on Tuesday with former Sri Lanka Test opener Sidath Wettimuny as the chief guest.

Dinesh Chandimal of Ananda College, Colombo who was adjudged the Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year (All-Island) received the glittering trophy from the Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge. Editor-in-Chief of the Sunday Observer Dinesh Weerawansa presented the Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year (All-Island) trophy to Angelo Perera, the captain of St. Peter’s College, Colombo 4. Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket D.S. de Silva, President of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association Asoka Senani Hewage, Chairman of Selectors Ashantha de Mel and Sri Lanka’s World Cup winning captain and Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 1980 and 1982, Arjuna Ranatunga were amongst the distinguished guests, along with the Chairperson of Sri Lanka Telecom Leisha de Silva Chandrasena, ANCL Chairman Bandula Padmakumara and CEO of SLT Mobitel Suren J. Amarasekera.
