Ravi Punchihewa Academy win by 19 runs

CRICKET: Ravi Punchihewa Cricket Academy from Matale, made a triumphant tour of South India when they became champions at the under-14 invitation limited over cricket tournament organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu by defeating Dave Cricket Academy by 19 runs in the final played in Chennai.

Playing a major role in winning this championship was Trinitian Samahi Saifdeen who was adjudged the player of the tournament for his consistence performance throughout the tournament. His best performance was in the semi-finals when he top scored with a hard hit 49 with 6 fours and also captured 2 for 5 runs, held 2 catches and a direct hit earned him a run out. He was easily adjudged the 'Man of the Match'. This was against Dave Cricket Academy 'B' which the team from Matale won by 67 runs.

Four teams participated in this tournament and Ravi Punchihewa Cricket Academy made a lasting impression by winning the championship title, though they suffered a reversal in their second match against Unique Cricket Academy when they were beaten by 7 wickets. But they made suitable amends in the next two matches to grab the championship title.

In the first match they beat Maga Gratien CA by 39 runs.

Ravi Punchihewa CA: 186 for 9 wickets off 25 overs (M. Al Maktun 28, Samahi Shaifdeen 21, P. De Silva 21, M. Isham 18, I. Madhusanka 12, H. Hamsoon 10, P. Kumar 3 for 18, S. Naveen 2 for 21).

Maga Gratitien CA: 147 for 8 in 25 overs (S. Balaji 71, S. Vicknesh 20, M. Almaktun 2 for 26, M. Arshard 2 for 10).

Second match

Unique Cricket Academy beat Ravi Punchihewa Cricket Academy by 7 wickets.

Ravi Punchihewa CA: 74 all out in 14 overs (Nimasara Bandara 10, H. Hamsoon 10, V. Kumar 3 for 14, N. Prathuvi 2 for 14, M. Sanjaya 2 for 12).

Unique CA: 75 for 6 in 21 overs (N. Prathuvi 30, S. Samran 14 not out, V. Vidushan 2 for 7, I. Madhusanka 2 for 14).

Third match

Ravi Punchihewa CA beat Dave CA 'B' by 67 runs.

Ravi Punchihewa CA: 206 for 6 wickets in 25 overs (Samahi Saifdeen 49, P. R. De Silva 25 not out, M. Almaktun 23, I. Madusanka 17, L. Hakeem 14, S.S. Naveen 2 for 21).

Dave CA 'B': 139 all out in 25 overs (S. Adithiya 15, M. Jayasooriya 23, A. Singh 23, J. Nikoon 14, M. Arshard 3 for 16, Samahi Saifdeen 2 for 5, P.R. De Silva 2 for 2, H. Hamsoon 2 for 18).

Final

Ravi Punchihewa CA beat Dave CA 'A' by 19 runs.

Ravi Punchihewa CA: 190 for 8 wickets off 25 overs (Mohammed Umer 43, Lukman Hakeem 21, Samahi Saifdeen 19, M. Isham 14, M. Al Maktun 10, P.R. De Silva 10, N. Surath 2 for 14, S. Sulaiman 2 for 40).

Dave CA 'A': 171 for 8 off 25 overs (S. Sanjay 42, M. Shaewan 39, S. S. Sanju 29, A. Sulaiman 18, A.K. Narayan 14, M. Arshard 2 for 21, Nimsara Bandara 2 for 12).

Man of the Final: M. Umer of Ravi Punchihewa CA.

Former Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy cricketer Manoj Kumar was the chief guest and he distributed the main awards along with the guest of honour Ravi Punchihewa.

The following won awards of the tournament.

Best Batsman of the Tournament: S. Balaji (Maga Gratien CA).

Best Bowler of the Tournament: Mohammed Arshard (RPCA).

Best Player of the Tournament: Samahi Saifdeen (RPCA).
