All set for SPC election

All arrangements have been made for the Southern Provincial Council (SPC)
election. There are 1,761,859 registered voters in the 21 electorates
(761,815 - Galle district, 578,858 - Matara district and 421,186 in the
Hambantota district). Additional Elections Commissioner Sumanasiri
Weerasinghe told the Sunday Observer.
The postal voting for the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council (SPC)
election will commence on September 29 and end on September 30.
According to Weerasinghe, there are 31,152 registered postal voters,
14,760 voters are from the Galle district, the highest number of postal
voters for the SPC election, 8,390 in Matara and 8,002 in the Hambantota
district.
The Elections Secretariat will set up 670 polling centres in Galle,
442 in Matara and 373 in the Hambantota district, Weerasinghe said.
The Elections Secretariat will also set up 161 counting centres in
the Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts including 13 centres to count
postal votes.
There will be 68 counting centres (including five counting centres
for postal votes) in the Galle district, 53 counting centres (with four
counting centres for postal votes) in the Matara district and 40
counting centres (with four counting centres for postal votes) in the
Hambantota district.
The Southern Provincial Council election will be held on October 10,
election officials said.
