Sri Lanka Army celebrates 60th Anniversary

The Sri Lanka Army celebrates its 60th Anniversary on the 10th of
October 2009. Accordingly the Sri Lanka Army has planned a series of
events for the month of October including an exhibition to be held at
BMICH followed by an Army Tattoo to be held at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

The Sri Lanka Army has invited Cargills (Ceylon) PLC to meet the food
and beverage requirements on that day.
Sri Lanka Army Commander, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya noted
that the 60th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army falls at a decisive
moment when the country enjoys true freedom. “This is a historic moment
for us. A moment brought about through the strategic leadership of the
then Army Commander, present Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Sarath Fonseka.
As a result the Sri Lanka Army today stands tall among the defense
forces of the world.
Therefore it is fit that we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the
Army in true style giving the general public an opportunity to join in
the celebrations which would spread across the month of October,” he
said.
Major Gen. Shavendra Silva, Director General of Operations of Sri
Lanka Army commenting on the events lined up for the occasion said that
an Army Tattoo of unprecedented scale would be the highlight of the
celebration.
Major General Silva note “The Army Tattoo would be held at the R.
Premadasa Stadium for 7 days from the 17th to the 23rd of October and we
expect a turnout of over 20,000 per day.
This Army Tattoo would display the heroism of the Army, gallantry,
acrobatics and an assortment of undisputed skills that have now reached
international standards of professionalism.” The Sri Lanka Army
meanwhile anticipates a crowd of over one million for the exhibition at
BMICH to be held from the 3rd to the 7th of October. Commenting on this
partnership Chief Executive Officer of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC, Ranjit
Page noted that the Company is delighted and honoured to be associated
with such a historic event. “As a corporate citizen that takes great
pride in supporting our nation we are honoured to be associated with the
Sri Lanka Army’s 60th anniversary celebrations. The Sri Lanka Army is
