The Sri Lanka Army has invited Cargills (Ceylon) PLC to meet the food and beverage requirements on that day.

Sri Lanka Army Commander, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya noted that the 60th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army falls at a decisive moment when the country enjoys true freedom. “This is a historic moment for us. A moment brought about through the strategic leadership of the then Army Commander, present Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Sarath Fonseka. As a result the Sri Lanka Army today stands tall among the defense forces of the world.

Therefore it is fit that we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Army in true style giving the general public an opportunity to join in the celebrations which would spread across the month of October,” he said.

Major Gen. Shavendra Silva, Director General of Operations of Sri Lanka Army commenting on the events lined up for the occasion said that an Army Tattoo of unprecedented scale would be the highlight of the celebration.

Major General Silva note “The Army Tattoo would be held at the R. Premadasa Stadium for 7 days from the 17th to the 23rd of October and we expect a turnout of over 20,000 per day.

This Army Tattoo would display the heroism of the Army, gallantry, acrobatics and an assortment of undisputed skills that have now reached international standards of professionalism.” The Sri Lanka Army meanwhile anticipates a crowd of over one million for the exhibition at BMICH to be held from the 3rd to the 7th of October. Commenting on this partnership Chief Executive Officer of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC, Ranjit Page noted that the Company is delighted and honoured to be associated with such a historic event. “As a corporate citizen that takes great pride in supporting our nation we are honoured to be associated with the Sri Lanka Army’s 60th anniversary celebrations. The Sri Lanka Army is driven by the strength and commitment of rural youth and we take this as an opportunity to demonstrate our appreciation of these young men and women. We would therefore ensure that the celebration would be a memorable one.”
