No proof against teacher - CID
by Jayampathy JAYASINGHE
Investigations carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department
(CID) into the alleged leakage of the (GCE) AL Biology question paper in
August had found no incriminating evidence against the suspect tuition
teacher in Matara, DIG (CID) Nandana Munasighe told the "Sunday
Observer."
He said the CID began investigations on the alleged leakage of the
question paper following the dossier forwarded to the CID by the
Provincial Commissioner of Examinations, Pelawatte in the Matara area.
It was alleged that a private tuition master in Matara had mailed the
identical model questions of his tutorial among students, a few weeks
prior to the commencement of the (GCE) AL examination on August 12.
According to some newspaper reports, the suspect had earmarked the
model questions on his tutorial with high marks and had mailed them to
the students. The Ceylon Teachers' Union had lodged a complaint with the
Minister of Education.
Subsequent investigations by the CID had revealed that the suspect
tuition master was not involved in the distribution of model questions
of the Biology paper of the GCE (AL) examination.
The suspect had mailed some parts of the syllabus of the Advanced
Level Biology paper to his students.
