The Sri Lanka Air
Force Seva Vanitha Unit donated a newly built house worth Rs
1 million to Lance Corporal Kalum de Silva of the Sri Lanka
Air Force recently. Lac Silva was paralysed due to injuries
sustained in during a casualty evacuation operation in
Nedunkerni in 1997. Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lankan High
Commission in Dhaka Bangladesh sponsored the construction.

Comrade Pieter's commemoration on Oct. 3
A felicitation ceremony to mark the 92nd birthday of
former Communist Party General Secretary and veteran politician of
Sri Lanka's Leftist Movement will be held on October 3 at 9.00 a.m.
in front the Keuneman statue, opposite Elphistons Theatre, Maradana.
Ministers A.H.M. Fowzie, D.E.W. Gunasekera, Prof.
Tissa Vitharana, WPC Chief Minister, Prasanna Ranatunga, Colombo
Municipal Council's Chief Administrator Omar Kamil and
Attorney-at-Law M.A. Rizvi are scheduled to address the gathering,
according to L.R. Stephen, Asst. Secretary, Pieter Keuneman
Commemoration Committee.
Dharmaloka V. anniversary from Sept.30
The Buddhist Association of Dharmaloka Vidyalaya,
Kelaniya, has organised a series of events from Wednesday, September
30 to Sunday, October 4, to mark the 71st anniversary, by
remembering its founders. The entire program is organised by the
Principal G.G.N. Jayaweera and Deputy Principals, Ven. Napugoda
Sumanatissa thera and Ven. Mahara Seelananda thera.
An FM broadcasting service organised by the school
Media Unit DFM on 96.1 FM will go on the air from September 30 to
October 4, with schoolchildren taking part in a variety of programs.
On October 1, schoolchildren will offer flowers and
a series of Dhamma sermons. The school magazine 'Sri Dharmaloka'
will be published for the fourth year in succession with a special
edition to mark the anniversary. The School Debating Society has
also organised an All-Island schools debating contest to mark the
event.
Supiri Mal Dakma from Oct 2 to 4
The Supiri Mal Dakma exhibition and sale of plants
will be held at Viharamahadevi Park from Oct. 2 to 4 from 9.00 a.m.
to 8.00 p.m.
A series of lectures will also be delivered as
follows for those who are interested in growing orchids and
anthurium as a hobby or self-employment.Oct. 2 at 2.30 p.m. "Growing
Anthurium" by Sunil Amarasinghe; Oct 3, at 10.30 a.m. "Growing
Orchids" by Mrs. Susila Fernando, President Orchid Circle of Ceylon.
The Supiri Mal Dakma is organised by Mrs. Punya
Kathriarachchi.
