Southern polling cards to be distributed today

Polling cards for the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council (SPC) elections will be distributed today, according to Additional Elections Commissioner Sumanasiri Weerasinghe.

According to Weerasinghe, the distribution of polling cards for the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council election commenced on September 22.It will conclude on October 2. He said they handed over the polling cards to the Postal Department on September 21.

Over 1.7 million polling cards will be distributed during this period. Eligible voters who don’t receive their polling cards by October 2 should contact the nearest post office to obtain their polling cards he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Post Master General R. C. D. Gamini said the polling cards will be distributed even on holidays including Sundays during this period to ensure that all registered voters receive their polling cards.

A special security plan is also in place for the duration of the distribution process, said Gamini.
