Kasun 142 as Vidyartha hold Trinity

Vidyartha College fought back to hold Trinity College to a honourable draw in their inter school cricket match conducted at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday.

Trinity College 360 for 8 decl. and 78 for 7 in 19 overs (Niroshan Dickwelle 36, S. Wanniaarachchi 12, Kasun Wijekoon 3 for 3, Sameera Abeyratne 2 for 4).

Vidyartha College 274 all out in 101.4 overs (Thirantha Dissanayake 52, Kasun Wijekoon 142, Sameera Abeyratne 37, Suresh Wickrema 5 for 44, Akila Jayasundera 2 for 22).

Aluthgama M.V. U.15 cricket champs

CRICKET: Aluthgama Maha Vidyalaya became under-15 cricket champions in the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Tournament conducted recently. The champion team was led by Chamara Maduwanthage.

The team fared prominently, defeating Asoka Vidyalaya, Horana by 8 runs, Thakshila Vidyalaya, Horana by 240 runs, Vishenthi College, Horana by 294 runs and Kalutara National School by 8 wickets in the run up to becoming champions. Aluthgama MV is coached by Manjula Cooray and Sarath Wijesinghe is the master-in-charge. The Principal W.A.S. Wickremasinghe has extended all support to the Aluthgama MV to become the champions.

HSBC - 'D' div semi-league basketball champs

BASKETBALL: HSBC are the Mercantile Semi-League Basketball Tournament 'D' division champions for 2009.

The HSBC team went through an unbeaten run. HSBC beat Commercial 'B' 60-23, Hayleys 63-49 in group stages beat Standard Chartered 66-59 in the semi-finals and Hayleys 74-69.

The captain of the team was Vithiyarooban and vice captain Sasin were instrumental in their good showing during the course of the tournament.
