President has qualities of Nehru, JFK - Warnapala

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has the ability to attract the masses in our country the same way the late Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the late American President John F. Kennedy could, according to Higher Education Minister Prof. Wiswa Warnapala.

He stated that the President's policies had brought him close to the masses in the country, particularly among the rural masses.

Minister Warnapala noted that the eradication of the LTTE and the killing of Prabhakaran were the biggest achievements in the history of Sri Lanka.

Since 1944 Sri Lanka had a pantheon of leaders like D.S. Senanayake, S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike and Sirimavo Bandaranaike.

All these leaders including President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and the late President R. Premadasa made commendable contributions to the development and modernisation of this country.

They all did something to the country in their own way.

But President Mahinda Rajapaksa achieved the greatest victory against the 30-year-old LTTE terrorism. This is the biggest achievement in the history of Sri Lanka, the Minister stated.Our country which was on the verge of separation was liberated and united by President Rajapaksa,he said.
