Jaffna SLT soccer champs

FOOTBALL: Sri Lanka Telecom, Jaffna came up with a fine performance to defeat Sri Lanka Telecom, Kandy 1-0 in the final to emerge All-Island Champions at the All-Island Inter-Department Men's Soccer Tournament organised by Sri Lanka Telecom and played at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy.

At half-time, there was no scoring.

A total of 86 teams from all parts of the island participated in this tournament which was organised by the Central Province Regional Branch under the guidance of Regional Head Chinthaka Wijesuriya.

Before the commencement of the final, both teams were introduced to CEO - SLT Greg Young and Chinthaka Wijesuriya.

The final produced sparkling soccer with the soccerites from the North having more pace, possession and power but the Kandy team succeeded in keeping them at bay in the first-half. However, after the turn around the Jaffna team dislodged the hill capital's defence and scored through centre forward S. Sivanathan. The last period of play saw the Kandy team trying their best to equalise, but were thwarted by the Jaffna team.
