Aboard the Jetliner!
If you are at wits’ end of
having your perfect wedding but not opting for the traditional norms,
why not tie the knot aboard a luxury cruise ship? The Sri Lanka Navy’s
ship, formerly used for humanitarian efforts during the period of terros,
has opened up to give a boost to the tourism and travel industry in Sri
Lanka. Not only can the Jetliner be used for glamorous events and
cocktail parties, but weddings and birthday parties in a whole new
style.
Tourism solutions provider CodeGen celebrated their 10th anniversary
aboard this magnificent vessel to show their appreciation of all steps
taken to promote Sri Lanka as a top tourist destination.
With its headquarters in the UK, CodeGen entered the Sri Lankan
travel and tourism industry with the launch of its subsidiary Travel
Gateway (Pvt) Limited. Travel Gateway was launched with the main goal of
giving the local travel and tourism industry a deserving facelift in
terms of its online presence in the global market.
As its name implies, Travel Gateway aims to be the central gateway
for the distribution of all Sri Lankan travel products.
Amenities on board include banquet and conference halls, an
observation salon and a deck area with a capacity for 250 guests. The
‘Jetliner’ could be hired on hourly, daily or for weekend cruises by
individuals, tour operators and corporate clients.
“Having worked with the international travel and tourism industry
over many years, we have recognised the need to promote both the hotel
and accommodation segment of our local industry as well as the need to
equally promote Sri Lanka as a destination”, said Dr. Harsha Subasinghe,
CodeGen’s CEO.
For tourists, taking a voyage over the dazzling Indian Ocean in a Sri
Lankan luxury cruise ship will never be the same again and local
expatriates can take in a difference to living life on Sri Lanka, the
islander way.
Tourist arrivals increased last year by two percent despite the
global financial crisis. A 16 percent growth was recorded in December
2009 compared to the same month in the previous year. The Sri Lanka Navy
is in the process of appointing an agent to manage the vessel. The cost
would depend on tour packages.
