Kardinal Offishall
by Nadira Gunatilleke
Kardinal Offishall addes spice
to many songs through collaboration. He is singing...in his unique
voice....girl, I can notice but to, notice you, noticing me, from across
the room I can see it and can’t stop from myself from looking and
noticing you....and here comes the rap......He came into Sri Lankan
households when our local TV stations and radio stations started to play
his fantastic songs. Then came the ring-in tones. He became very popular
among Sri Lankan youths very fast.
Both the voice and appearance of the rapper instantly catch the
attention of girls and boys. It makes them dance no matter where they
are or what they are doing.
The best way is watching the music video is in an open place where
you can dance freely. His voice and looks are extremely `dangerous’ for
the young girls ! It makes their hearts beat faster and faster...it
stops their breath ! Ohhhh!!! is the word that comes out from any girl’s
mouth who watch his music videos.
He is Kardinal Offishall (Jason D. Harrow) the 33-year-old Canadian
rapper and record producer. In 2007, Akon signed Kardinal Offishall to
his label Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution. Kardinal Offishall
released an album under the album not 4 sale. It spawned the hit single
`Dangerous’ which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Kardinal had won many awards. 2004 Canadian Urban Music Award, 2006
three Much Music Video Awards, 2009 Juno Award for single of the year
for `Dangerous’ and 2009 SOCAN Urban Music Award for `Dangerous’ are
among them. What we Sri Lankan young musicians can learn from Kardinal ?
He always works with world famous and very talented artistes. But he
never shines from their popularity and talent. What he does is adding
more colour to their work.
