Bonjour Cinema 2010

The French-speaking countries such as Belgium, Canada, France and Switzerland will present 2010's edition of "Bonjour Cinema!" , the annual francophone film festival in Colombo.

The 5th edition will be held from March 19 to 23 at the auditorium of Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (next to BMICH) with screenings each day at 2.30 pm for children, 4.30pm and 7pm for adults. All films will be subtitled in English and the entrance is free.

A collection of 12 films representing the diversity and the creativity of the French speaking countries in the field of movie-making for both children and adults, will be screened on this occasion.

The event will also allow the public from Colombo to celebrate the official and worldwide "Day of Francophonie" with side events such as a French language contest for students and young French teachers.

Twelve films with English subtitles, including four children films, will be screened daily. There will be eight films for adults. They are:

* Roman de Gare (Crossed Tracks) Claude Lelouch-2007 (France)

* Le Premier venu (Just Anybody) - Jacques Doillon- 2008 (France)

* L' âge des tenbres (Days of Darknesse) - Denys Arcand - 2007 (Canada)

* En compagnie d'etrangers (Strangers in Good Company) - Cynthia Scott- 1990 (Canada)- Adults

* La mecanique des anges (Mechanic angels) - Alain Margot - 2008 (Switzerland)- Adults

* Pas les flics, pas les noirs, pas les blancs (Not the cops not the blacks, not the whites)

* Ursula Meier - 2002 (Switzerland)

* La femme de Gilles (Gilles'wife) - Frederic Fonteyne - 2004 (Belgium)

* Folie privee (Private madness) - Joachim Lafosse - 2004 -(Belgium) 4 children films

* Loulou et les autres loups (Loulou and other wolves) - Gregoire Solotareff, Jean-Luc Fromental

* Le Papillon bleu (The Blue butterfly) - Lea Pool - 2004 (Canada)

"Me Avurudu Kale" in Kandy

`Me Avurudu Kale,' a Sinhala New Year folk songs and traditions show by Sahan Ranwala, organised by the Old Rajans Scout Association of Dharmaraja College in aid of the Lake View Park International Scout Centre, will be staged on March 28 at the College Auditorium, Kandy at 3.30 and 6.30 p.m.

The Old Rajans Scout Association, which is the pioneer old scouts' association established in Sri Lanka is playing an invaluable role in promoting the scout group in Dharmaraja College, in Kandy district and generally in the whole Sri Lanka.

During the previous four years old scouts took steps to present musical shows, felicitate film festival and opera with the intention of strengthening the Lake View Park Development Fund and to provide well wishers with an opportunity to engage in a meaningful aesthetic enjoyment. One of the activities launched by the association in this regard is the development of the world famous Lake View Park International Scout Centre.

Following the same tradition, the association is organizing a Sinhala traditions and folk songs show "Me Avurudu Kale" specially is a novel approach by Sahan Ranwala aiming the Sinhala New Year traditions.


Expressions

An exhibition of figurative art entitled " Expression" by Jayantha Silva will be held from March 20 to 21 at Lionel Wendt Art Gallery .The exhibition will open at 9.00 am .


Eka Adhipathi

Dharmasiri Bandranayake's play Eka Adhipathi ( The Dictator) will go on the boards at the Town Hall, Kalutara on March 12 at 10.30 am. and at 6.30 pm and at John de Silva Momorial Theatre on March 14, at 3.00 p.m and 6.30 p.m.


Srimath Indrajit's Hekiya Saila Kotiyak

A concert entitled "Hekiya Saila Kotiyak" by Srimath Indrajith will be held on March 16, at 6.30 p.m. at Elphinstone theatre, Maradana. Srimath Indrajith is a television and radio presenter, writer and journalist. The concert will mark Indrajith's twenty years' journey in the field of art. The music for the concert is by Siyoth Group and stage play " Ballangen Pravesam Vanu" will also be staged on the occasion. Certificates for the students who completed Katahanda announcing Course , will also be presented on the occasion.


Colour Ballpoint on canvas 2010

An exhibition of paintings by Mangala Madanayake titled " Colour Ballpoint on canvas 2010 will be held at Alliance Fracaise from 9.00 a.m to 6.00 pm from March 19 to March 21. The exhibition is made up of 60 creations on diverse themes entirely drawn by ballpoint.
