Welcome showers

The warm weather conditions which prevailed for serveral weeks has ended, with the onset of lightning and thundershowers in the evenings from Friday. Deputy Director for Weather Forecasting and Disaster Management Activities, S. R. Jayasekara of the Meteorological Department said the weather pattern had changed from this weekend. Showers are forecast specially in the Eastern part of the country while there is a possibility of evening showers in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western Provinces.

The Deputy Director said the reason for the warm conditions experienced at night was the high daytime temperatures. During the night, the land cools faster than the sea, and moisture filled air flows inland from the ocean. As a result, night time skies become cloudier which lead to humid conditions.
