Golden Key depositors reassured again

Central Bank Governor, Ajith N. Cabraal has reassured Ceylinco Golden Key depositors again that their dues would be settled soon.

The Governor who met the Ceylinco depositors last week said the delay in the re-payment was due to Lalith Kotelawala and other Golden Key Directors not declaring clear assets of their Ceylinco properties.

Cabraal said that steps have been taken by the Central Bank to settle the depositors and in keeping with the Supreme Court ruling a new committee has been set up at the Central Bank to attend to all matters pertaining to Golden Key depositors.

Following the intervention of the Central Bank Rs. 600 million has been paid to 6,250 Golden Key depositors who had deposits under Rs. 5 million. Customers who had deposits over Rs. 5 million (1,261 depositors) are also to be paid an instalment of Rs. 100,000 as and when funds are available.

The Governor called upon the depositors to be patient and not pay any membership fees or other payments to any association formed to look into the welfare of depositors.
