Minister of Plantation Industries D. M. Jayaratne has urged the
ruling People's Alliance supporters to play an exemplary role in
conducting a trouble free General Election.
He was addressing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party members at the SLFP
Headquarters in Gampola last week.
Minister Jayaratne who is also the Secretary of the People's Alliance
said that the administrative system should give equal rights to the
minority communities without dividing the country.
The opportunities to pose challenges to internal affairs shouldn't be
encouraged. The coming election will be a wonderful opportunity to teach
a good lesson to UNP, JVP and other parties, those who paved the avenues
for external interference, the Minister said.
He said we have to win this Parliamentary Election by 2/3 majority as
we have won the Presidential Election by a large majority, and show the
world about prevailing democracy. During the Parliamentary election we
have to show the power of voting, and use that for an undivided country
which has equal rights for all nationalities.
PA members should note that no one will be harassed or abused. It is
a responsibility of all the members of the party to behave well without
making a black mark to the party.
The Minister states that disciplinary action will be taken against
those who engage in election violence and police have been empowered to
take action against them. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has taken every
measure to hold the election in a free and fair manner.
In the same way as the Presidential Election which was directed
towards success, the General Election also should be placed in the path
of victory in a fair, peaceful and harmonious manner says Minister D. M.
Jayarathne.
