State banks to share teller machines
by Shirajiv SIRIMANE
Three State banks are hoping to come to an understanding to share
their electronic teller machines.
At present if a customer withdraws cash from a teller machine of
another bank a fee is imposed on each transaction. Chief Executive
Officer, People’s Bank, P. V. Pathirana told the Sunday Observer that
they are holding discussions with the other two State banks, Bank of
Ceylon and the National Savings Bank to waive this fee.
“This will also help customers to have a better reach to their credit
as they could have more teller machines to do transactions,” he said. He
said that a common card for teller machines would be beneficial
especially in rural areas and the North and the East. He said that the
banks are now studying this proposal and exploring its technicalities.
